How about giving corporate training and utilities to employees on their blackberry/mobile phones?

In the current scenario where time is critical and training needs are a constant, Blackberry based corporate training (B-Training as we call it at Deltecs) can be an apt tool for time-pressed high/mid profile corporate executives to complete their training needs. Most of the senior management employees struggle to find time for desktop based or classroom training as they are committed to their busy scheduled work. Moreover, with an acute shortage of trained individuals, growing training needs, and strict timelines, corporate training on blackberry phones can be best suited to be a part of blended learning models.

Mobile Delivery has been picking up.
For eg. Sun and many other companies have delivery platforms for this.
Technology exists. The vision from the management does not exist. And creation
of mobile specific modules has its own challenges .
MLearning is on the go.

Mobile learning is another obvious development in the change in the way people are learning. With so much information on tap through the web the modern approach is to look it up as we need it. Sitting on a train today I was surrounded by people using their phones for a variety of things other than making calls; I myself was listening to the last few chapters of the latest Dan Brown novel but the point being why spend a day in the classroom or 2 hrs on e-learning modules when the simple answer can be provided in the form of a 5 min podcast or quick video. Employee are remote and mobile, their access to learning needs to support this.

Here in the UK there is a lot of interest in Mobile learning for school children. iPhone and Smart apps, I have even seen questions sent by sms.

If you think about it small bite sized chunks of learning and revision at the airport on the train!

I'm just curious, but where does assessment and tracking come in to play with this kind of learning? Is the assumption it would be used for small, steady drip learning (like industry updates or computer software tips) rather than mission critical things? Or would it be used for all learning and the assumption is we look it up as we need it? (Which is hopefully not at the time to decide between cutting the red or the green wire. :-)

It is learning plus assessment solution. I am in agreement with your assumption, it allows the participants to learn in small burst. The learning could be a small update, a PPT, small audio or a video on the mobile phone. Once learning is done, it is also important to assess the participants in terms of their understanding of the learning and analyze the performances. Assessment + Analysis becomes important in deciding the next learning stage for the participants.
