Thanks for the invite. Although I now live just 20 minutes from the town of your father's birth, I am actually a South African. If you ever have the misfortune to hear me speak during any of the sessions, you will be able to identify that immediately!
I use tools like YouTube a lot when looking for tutorials for my kids on some point they haven't understood at school. When my sister (who still lives in SA) was bemoaning the fact that her son had started to struggle with maths and her own skills were insufficient to help him, I blithely said "I have one word for you: YouTube." When she described how impossible it was for her to access these resources, I was mortified!
But it also gave me pause: if I could make that mistake, how much more could others make it who had never lived in a developing country and had no frame of reference for the challenges they face?
Carol - as I look we have more in Common - I live in Tikokino just across the hill from you....I know Derek at Core ED, although are limited to virtual discussions I am a fan of his work, their thinking - we have yet to meet in person....as mentioned before, distance learning will become more of a focus for me in the new year and so it apears our destiny determined.
Hello - wow this is great....I would love to catchup one day as I am focusing on e-learning with a special focus on building communities around the Pacific Islands
