Hi Jay, Just wanted to let you know what a fantastic event I thought it was -- all three days (I was glued to my computer) -- and how effectively it modeled the possibilities of open learning. One idea for next year, based on the open- vs. organ...

As I mentioned in our last session, we'll be getting back to you in a month or two to ask what things from Learning 2009 are proving to be of lasting value. In the meantime, if you have suggestions or comments, feel free to post them here.

Cate, sure, lots of people follow the fads but I think there's a lot more going on here. Have we mastered excellent elearning design? Sort of. We're finding out that the best learning is often co-created, not the result of top-down design. Some o...

The first story that Jay lists is a wonderful article. It is true that many get into the corporate training business because it has more benefits and pays better than being a classroom teacher. I think business-minded L&D professionals are badly n...

Notes on the July 23 session on the Future of the Training Business

LearnTrends
July 23, 2009

Where is the training industry going? How will we get there? 84 participants to start.

Josh Bersin.
Shrinkage of 11% in 2008. Expect a similar drop in 2009. Companies consolidating training groups.

Example: BofA/Merrill/Countrywide slashed training 35% in less than a year.

Shift toward informal learning. Revolution. From learning programs to environments. Redefining what training means. eLearning has peaked. Companies have enough formal training.

how to fix Java WebStart on MacOSX 10.5.7
I don’t know when this broke – maybe around the time Safari 4 was released? Anyway, Java WebStart stopped working. Downloading a .jnlp file and doubleclicking it brought up an editor (Dashcode) rather than the application launched via Java WebStart. I tried using Spotlight to find “Java WebStart” so I could manually launch the app. But nothing was foun… Continue

Hello Jay, I tried to enter the virtual room hosted by Elluminate but I can't see the session. Is there something which I missed out?

Hi Jay,

With your work in Education Technology and Web 2.0, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.

Hi Jay,
I have deleted my discussion and will reframe it to be a study in learning that we want to try out with this community. Hopefully it will 'smack' less of commercial and be more of an encouragement for the group to jump into a theoretical experiment with us. Sound okay with you? Best, Vic :) http://VicDesotelle.com

hi jay, i'd love to do that. will have to find some compadres, though. 2 questions:
(1) do you mean 4:00 GMT am or pm? (my time is GMT+1) i could do both, but i'm not sure wtaht part of vthe world will be listening at 4 am?
(2) i have only a vague idea yet about what i would have to do with Elluminate (have participated in some British events, but never led them) - do you arrange the Elluminate session so that we just have to log in?

Jay, thanks for the message. Actually, 12:30 pm would be around 10 am my time on the 21st. I will be online around that time and bring up the topic. Looking forward to the conference.

Now to learn about Twitter. Haven't used it before.
